Genetic research
Agenda
This year, the members’ meeting was held in the U.S. on July 16th at the Tyson’s Corner Marriott near Washington, D.C.

Professor Maurice van Steensel was in attendance to perform diagnoses and to answer questions.

Steve Groft, Director of the Office of Rare Diseases at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was also there, as he was last year.

Dr. Millan Patel, under whose leadership the genetic research is being performed, came specially from Canada for the event.  We are
very grateful for his effort and contribution! Dr. Patel gave a presentation to explain what the study involves, and got the opportunity to meet Maurice van Steensel personally.
Professor van Steensel arrived Friday evening, and started early Saturday morning with 14 diagnoses.  On Sunday he returned to the Netherlands and I would really like to thank him for his enormous effort.

Several people were diagnosed with something other than CMTC;  luckily, however, our expertise is not limited to CMTC alone (so long as the problem involves vascular malformations), so they came to the right place.

In the context of subclassification of vascular malformations, I refer to the presentation of Dr. Charlène Oduber, which she presented at our
members’ meeting in 2010 in the Netherlands.  In this presentation, she explained the various subclassifications with accompanying photographs.

This year was also the first time that we organized for the children of everyone, just as in the Netherlands. The person who actually organized this is Laura, the partner of the chairman.

Among other things, the children could ‘felt’, and the results were remarkable.  Even those as young as two years old participated.
