A EUPATI Fellow is someone who has completed an intensive training program through the European Patients’ Academy on Therapeutic Innovation (EUPATI). This program focuses on equipping patients, caregivers, and other stakeholders to take an active role in medicines development and health research.
Purpose of EUPATI
EUPATI is a European initiative designed to involve patients and stakeholders in medical innovation. It provides education and information on:
- Medicines Development (e.g., clinical trials, preclinical research, regulatory processes).
- Regulatory Processes (e.g., drug approval).
- Health Technology Assessment (HTA), (e.g., evaluating new technologies and treatments).
The Training Program
The EUPATI Fellow course is an in-depth program that is primarily delivered online, supplemented by workshops and live sessions. The course lasts about 14 months and covers topics such as:
- Research methodologies.
- Policies and regulations.
- The role of patients in research.
- Ethical aspects of medicines development.
Role of a EUPATI Fellow
After completing the program, Fellows can actively participate in areas such as:
- Advisory boards for pharmaceutical companies.
- Review committees for clinical trials.
- Health policy development.
- Educating and engaging other patients.
