Dr. Wouter van der Schaar retires

Dr. Wouter van der Schaar

Our medical psychologist Dr Wouter van der Schaar is retiring.

Wouter has been active in our organisation for over 15 years and reaching the age of 85, he has decided to retire.

From 1969 to 2000, Dr Van der Schaar was a clinical psychologist at the Dermatological Department of the former ‘Binnen Gasthuis’, later he worked at ‘Academisch Medisch Centrum’ until his retirement. His objective: broadening the basis for and increasing the research on the psychological factors influencing the course or development of (chronic) skin diseases. Within this psycho-dermatological domain, he was elevated to be an advisor to some Dermatological Patient Associations. Besides medical psychology, he was also concerned with the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) in victims at home and abroad and further, he worked in the Dutch Obesity Clinic (NOK) in Hilversum for 10 years.

Wouter not only gave various presentations during our conferences, he also conducted workshops and developed almost all the information you can find on the psychology part of our website. Finally, during our conference in 2018, he offered personal psychological advice to patients and their families.

We have personally all said goodbye to him and presented him with a royal lime tree.

Fortunately, we have found a suitable successor: Dr Patrick Kemperman.
