Vaccination advice COVID-19

corona covid-19

We are member of European Reference Networks (ERNs) and they offer a unique opportunity for physicians to work cross-border in healthcare in Europe.

ERNs create a clear governance structure for knowledge exchange and care coordination across the European Union to improve access to diagnosis and treatment, as well as the provision of high-quality healthcare for patients. They are networks of centres of excellence and care providers, organised across borders.

Below you can find the vaccination advice of the ERNs in which we are participating.

Always consult your general practitioner or medical specialists.

The experts from each ERN-Skin thematic group have summarised their recommendations taking into consideration all specific cases and treatments for the patients with rare skin diseases.

VASCERN Vascular Anomalies (VASCA) Working Group – Statement concerning SARS-CoV-2 vaccination for patients with vascular malformations.

General statement:

  1. Follow the national safety advice for social distancing, mask-wearing etc.
  2. Vaccination is important for the whole population but it remains your own choice.

Recommendation for vaccination

1. The national guidelines concerning vaccination are leading.
2. In case of severe forms of vascular malformations we, however, recommend vaccination as the combination of COVID-19 might increase tromboflebitis in lesions. Consult your treating physician or a general practitioner if you have any additional questions.

Contraindications for vaccination of patients with vascular malformations

There are no contraindications for vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 for patients with vascular malformations. Taking Sirolimus is not considered as a contraindication for vaccination either (irrespective of whether it is one of the mRNA based vaccines (Moderna/Pfizer) or whether it is the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine).
