Prof. Dr. Frieden is a Professor of Pediatrics and Dermatology, former Vice-Chair and former Chief of the Division of Pediatric Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco. She received her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, where she also completed a pediatric internship and residency as well as a dermatology residency. She has won many awards including the Alvin Jacobs Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Dermatology Foundation Lifetime Career Educator Award, the Mentor of the year and the Rose Hirschler awards from the Women’s Dermatological Society and the Thomas Pearson Award from the American Academic of Dermatology.
She has been President of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology, President of the American Board of Dermatology, President of the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies, and a member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology,. She is a former editor-in-chief of the journal, Pediatric Dermatology and is co-editor of the textbook Neonatal and Infant Dermatology, now in its 3rd edition.
Prof. Dr. Frieden has a wide variety of interested in Pediatric Dermatology including birthmarks, hemangiomas, vascular anomalies, and cutaneous infections. She helped to found one of the first collaborative research groups in Pediatric Dermatology, the Hemangioma Investigator Group, in 2001. She was also a founding member of the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance, PeDRA, has served on its Executive Committee for many years, and is its current President.
